Joomla 6.1 is here!

The Joomla! Project is pleased to announce the availability of Joomla 6.1 [Nyota], the latest minor version in the Joomla 6 series.

What’s new in Joomla 6.1?

Here are some of the highlights included in this release:

Proof-of-Work CAPTCHA

Spam Protection is BACK with Proof-of-Work CAPTCHA
No account or API required, privacy-friendly and accessible, this captcha silently solves math puzzles in the background, invisible to visitors.
PR #46514

Visual Workflow Editor

Content Pipeline at a Glance with the Visual Workflow Editor
Manage your content workflow more easily with the new interactive workflow diagram that allows you to see the entire publication process.
PR #46021

Media Custom Fields

Three New Media Custom Field Options: Audio, Video & Documents. When creating Custom Fields for your content, you can now let content creators include any type of media, not just images.
PR #45013

Smarter Modules with Versioning and Multilingual Associations

Joomla has long offered version history for articles, and this feature is now available for modules as well. If you run a multilingual website, you can now associate module instances across different languages, the same way you can associate articles across languages.

Automatic updates

If automatic updates were enabled in the previous Joomla minor version 6.0.4, your system will be AUTOMATICALLY updated to 6.1.0.

Automatic updates are supported for patch updates and minor updates from version 5.4 and 6.0 onwards.

Automatic updates are not supported when changing Joomla major versions. That is, when updating/upgrading from Joomla 5.4 to Joomla 6.x, or from Joomla 6.4 to Joomla 7.x. For a Joomla major update, this must still be carried out manually in the backend or using an external tool.

A big thank you to our community!

Joomla 6.1 is the result of more than 130 pull requests submitted by volunteers from all over the world – developers, testers, translators, documentation authors and many others.

Your time and talent move Joomla forward.
