About the Joomla! Project

The Joomla Project is a volunteer-based project with contributors from all over the world working in many different capacities. The project is led by the Core Team with support from the various Working Groups and community at large.

The Core Team

The Joomla Project is led by members of the Core Team who are responsible for the overall project management. The Core Team works together with a commitment to moving Joomla forward in the true spirit of the open source movement.

Core Team members come from different backgrounds, a diverse array of disciplines and varied experiences. The Core Team is also a truly global group with members located in many countries throughout the globe. This all contributes to the strength and richness of Joomla. To find out more about the Core Team, see our current list of members and honor role of past members.

Working Groups

The Joomla Project has several Working Groups that have been created to utilize the wealth of knowledge our community provides. Each of these groups focuses on a specific aspect of Joomla essential to the project's growth and development.

As it is neither possible or healthy for the Core Team to be involved in every discussion and conversation regarding Joomla development and growth, these working groups are essential. With a leader or co-leader on the Core Team, they have a built-in method of communication.

These working groups provide an essential communication channel between the community and the Core Team to bring concerns to light, advocate changes, and disseminate information.

Project Governance

The Joomla Project is governed by the Core Team and the Board of Directors of Open Source Matters, Inc., a not-for-profit created to provide organization, legal, and financial support to the Joomla project. Together, these two groups nurture all critical aspects of the Joomla Project to ensure its continued existence, relevance, and integrity.

Open Source Matters provides the necessary foundation for the Joomla Project to receive donations, develop partnerships, retain copyrights and trademarks, and protect the individual contributors from unnecessary legal exposure.
