The site developers were looking for a uniform, easy to use, and easy to customize CMS platform that would accomodate an ongoing process of evolution, in keeping with the pace of VoIP industry trends and developments in VoIP packaged services. According to them, they got what they were looking for.
"I love Joomla" says Doug G., head of web services for 5PCom. "I had played around with it, and several others including Drupal, PhpNuke, and even (Joomla precursor prior to a split in development) Mambo. By far, Joomla won hands down, and I have been hooked ever since..." When asked what about the platform makes it so "lovable" Doug explained "Besides just being well organized, intuitive, and powerful, I really love the level of precision with which users can tweak. You get the power of a dynamic, PHP based site, but with the ability to tune it for caching and static HTML output. Basically, that equates to increased site performance and search engine optimization (SEO) which is so important to visibility in the search engines, yet hard to achieve with PHP by itself. It's a case of getting the best of both worlds"... (dynamic functionality of PHP, along with SE friendly static output.)
The company plans on sticking with Joomla "for the long haul" according to Doug. Upcoming plans for site changes include migration from Joomla 1 to Joomla 1.5, as well as template redesigns and modifications intended to improve on the overall branding image, while streamlining effectiveness of key landing pages.
