Build 1.9.0 is the first release following the 6-month anniversary of J! Reactions, and it's shaping up to be a SIGNIFICANT update, with several minor bug fixes and about a dozen new or revised operations. In addition to a more flexible file system for templates, this next release will include two, new templates that make full use of the flexibility and simplicity that are unique to the J! Reactions commenting system.

The publisher is planning for a release date of 10 August, 2007; but this date could be pushed back if there are last-minute bug reports, feature requests or other development interruptions. Now is a good time for users to communicate any suspected bugs or useful code revisions.

Note also that build 1.9.0 will NOT ship with any language files (other than the default english.php). All translated language files from build 1.8.1 and earlier must be updated. Users are urged to begin preparing front-end language files now. To this end, advanced copies of the english.php language file are available for administrators and translators. Links to completed language files can be posted at the J! Reactions website, for the benefit of the entire Joomla! community.

And finally, the
details of J! Reactions 1.9.0:

• NEW Extendible Form Interface. The Pro Edition introduces another first in commenting software. J! Reactions' new optional, custom data field makes it ridiculously easy to collect and display specialized information with comments, such as the user's country, favorite food or occupation--depending on the purpose of the website.
• NEW signature switch now supports a third setting to allow registered users to leave any name with their comments. This enhanced signature control is now a standard feature in both the Free and Pro Editions!
• NEW unobtrusive hide/show Javascript effects for comments and form. J! Reactions continues to employ lightweight and accessible Javascript methods that enhance functionality, rather than core methods that completely fail when Javascript is not supported.
• NEW 'Corporate Blue' and 'Piano' templates. Incredibly, J! Reactions is still the only commenting solution for Joomla! with a genuine template system.
• NEW one-click suppression of the Joomla! email cloaking mambot. The default mambot is poorly implemented in Joomla!, as it punishes users without Javascript. Build 1.9.0 solves this problem once and for all.
• NEW master checkbox toggle in the Comments Management page (long overdue).
• NEW comment titles in the Comments Management page (also long overdue).
• NEW option to import mXcomment data. J! Reactions now automates migration from SIX commenting systems. Try all the rest, and then you'll know which is best.
• REV all images that normally appear with comments are now installed and referenced at the template level. Thus, all custom templates must provide a set of smiley, bbcode and—if necessary—moderator icons. This change increases the normal distribution size of the software, but it greatly simplifies the development and distribution of custom templates.
• FIX Auto-purge system does not correct for local time offset.
• FIX Joomla! content category 0 triggers plugin activation when using either automatic or semi-auto system mode.
• FIX Added space characters to the standard templates to prevent empty spans (which do not validate).
• FIX bbcode bug ignores quotes without names.
